ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Enrichment Programs

Krescent City Kids provides enrichment programs in addition to the daily lesson plans and Curriculum. These programs are completely voluntary. These program are included in the weekly tuitiom paid to the center. See below for a comprehensive list of Krescent City Kids Enrichment Programs

We have implemented a reading program that will allow your children to develop a passion for independent and family reading.  Our children are offered Spanish daily with the goal of elementary familiarity and fluency by the completion of our program.

We are also very excited about the opening of our new technology library this past Fall  2015.  We believe that providing an engaging, hands on curriculum coupled with creative enrichment programs best prepares our students for kindergarten success.

Our new Master Chefs In Training Program which utilizes cooking to promote development and learning. Cooking is not only a fun, engaging activity for children, but one that has been used for years as an important teaching and development tool for all ages

Master Chef In-Training

Our Master Chef program inspires children’s curiosity, thinking, and problem solving, offering new opportunities to make predictions and observations. Additionally, cooking offers authentic opportunities for our students to understand and apply their knowledge of measuring, one-to-one correspondence, numbers, and counting. As they follow a recipe, our students organize ingredients, follow a sequence, and carry out multiple directions.

Chopping, squeezing, spreading, and mixing are all cooking skills that help develop a child’s small muscle control and eye-hand coordination. It’s impossible to separate hands-on cooking activities from physical development for young children.

With its own vocabulary, cooking is a great opportunity for language development. Take advantage of opportunities for children to match pictures to words and articulate questions inspired by their new experiences.

Master Chef Program provides hands-on cooking activities that help our students develop pride and confidence in their skills and abilities. The act of following a recipe encourages self-direction and independence, while also teaching children to follow directions and use thinking skills to problem solve.

Technology Library

At Krescent City Kids Learning Academy we firmly believe in integrating technology into our students daily activities and curriculum.

Our library has the following cutting edge technology:

(-) Touch screen computers which are integrated into daily activities and curriculum

(-) iPad's loaded with digital and audio books, as well as specific applications that support the

     weekly activities and curriculum themes

(-) Projectors to stream audio/video content to support curriculum

(-) Listening Center Playing the Audio Book of the week to supplement the weekly curriculum.

We also have dedicated space in our literacy lounge for local authors whose children's book reflects Louisiana culture.

Literacy Lounge

We will implement a reading program that allows our students to develop a passion for independent and family reading.

The lounge has a strong focus on emergent literacy, paired with age-appropriate books and magazines throughout the year. Each book will be hand-selected based on the illustrations, the vocabulary that is introduced, its focus on the current theme and its unique ability to engage the children

Our students will enjoy our spacious book nook, which will allow them to relax and read the Top
10 children's book on the NY Times Best Sellers List. Each month we will select the top 10 children's books from the New York Times Best Sellers list to place in our technology library in both physical and digital format.

Local Authors Corner- in an effort to highlight the importance of supporting local, we will be supplementing our children’s reading with children’s books from local authors.  Each month we will add to this collection and highlight the author in our monthly newsletter.

KID FITNESS with COACH DAVE

Kid fitness has always been used as a tool to enhance learning, build self-esteem, reduce stress, and support personal expression. Our fitness program will enable our children to access the full benefits of exercise as it relates to child development. It is essential that we provide our children with the developmental benefits and unique learning opportunities that come from exposure to the various types and forms of physical and personal expression.

Tinker Lab

Kids are natural tinkerers. They experiment, explore, test, and play, and they learn a great deal about problem-solving through questions and hands-on experiments. They don't see lines between disciplines; rather, they notice interesting materials and ideas that are worth exploring.

Our program focusing  on playful experiments that encourage tinkering, curiosity, and creative. For student 2 years and up, Tinker Lab gives them hands-on activities that explore art, science, and more.

Creative Dance

Participants in the Creative Dance Program will receive training in dance technique, which develops flexibility, coordination, strength, physical awareness, and body control. Students will learn through movement the basics of rhythm, participate in problem solving, create innovative compositions, and develop excellent performance skills.

KCK's  Creative Dance program introduces children to ballet, tap, and hip-hop techniques, while allowing them to express themselves through creative movement.

This program is offered to our students ages 3-4, with the the primary goal of fostering a love of movement. The creative component is quite large. Several fun or special activities happen in each class. For example, a scarf dance or a bean bag balance game can facilitate the dancer’s own physical expression. Taking part in dancing out a narrative helps children to understand that dancing is expression. It is a means of communicating feelings and actions. Children will also be exposed to vocabulary that will be elaborated as they continue throughout the Pre-K program. The class meets for 30 mins weekly and is taught by our resident Dance instructor who has been a dance for over 12 year and dance instructor for over 4years.

Mad Scientist

Our new "Mad Scientist' enrichment program brings the wonders of science to our preschool students, aged 3 to 5

Junior Master Gardener Program

The Junior Master Gardener program centers around the construction of an on-site vegetable garden, which becomes an outdoor classroom where the children build, dig, plant, water, rake, and yes, play.

The program combines daily lessons with garden work to teach children about healthy eating, the origins of food, environmental stewardship, and academic studies. Subjects range from math and science to social studies, history, literature, physical activity, and nutrition.Every center's needs and physical environment are different.

The program's goals are to increase children's nutritional and environmental awareness, increase their real-life and self-help skills, and increase their academic readiness for kindergarten.
